Fetal Monitors

Pregnant mothers can greatly benefit from fetal monitors when they actually have one in their home. The hand held monitors which are available for home use allows parents to know a little more about the development of their baby, their babys heart rate and of course the health status of their baby. Frequent trips to hospitals and clinics for prenatal check ups makes the mothers exhausted and stressed out so it is best to have fetal monitors at home so that it may help reduce the number of hospital trips the mother have to make.

The fetal monitors come in various kinds and designs according to their specific functions. A fetal monitor is typically battery operated and not complicated. Using a fetal monitor is also simple. Just place the probe of the fetal monitor just above your pubic bone, gradually tilting the probe at different angles until you find the amazing sound of babys heartbeat. Commonly, the fetal heartbeat can be determined between the 8th and 12th week of pregnancy but the fetal monitor can also monitor the heartbeat of the baby as early as two weeks.

The fetal monitors are lightweight and safe so it places no stress on your baby. Moreover, some fetal monitors have the functions that allow the mother to record the heartbeat of her baby and share it to her relatives and friends. Interpreting a fetal monitor is technically simple. With the rapid and fast changes in our technology today, different companies have developed hottest and new type of fetal monitors.

One exact example of this is the fetal heart monitor that uses the fetal ECG.  This is used when certain problem will occur like the fetus might be at high risk for metabolic acidosis. This will aid the physicians or midwives decide when the fetus can no longer tolerate the stress of labor and needs to be delivered. As the technology improves and the demand increases, different types of fetal monitors are now more practical, portable and affordable.
